NEW DELHI: All 242 people on board Air IndiaDelhi-Amritsar-Rome flight (AI 1123) last Wednesday was quarantined after around 30 passengers and two crew members – the captain who operated the aircraft and the leading cabin crew member – obtained a positive Covid test on arrival. Italian authorities sent the 232 passengers, eight cabin crew and two pilots to quarantine in a hotel.
The crew are going through a difficult time as they have reportedly been sent to a hospital in the Covid center to be quarantined. One of the crew wrote to airline management, saying: “After landing in Rome (April 28) we were informed ItalyThe new Covid protocol … that all passengers will be quarantined for 10 days. After following all the rules, it took us almost nine hours to reach the hotel after landing (where the Covid tests were carried out). The hotel provided to us is a Covid center hospital. The concerned crew member added that “the room is dirty; no soap or towel provided; The air conditioning does not work. ”

“It’s been two days since I asked them to open my bedroom window (but) no one has come so far,” the crew member said in his email. She complains about the quality of the “raw” foods served to them. “Much of our crew are vegetarians (who were told when they asked for the same) that this is a hospital, not a hotel. “So cooperate with whatever is provided to you”… If nothing (happens), we will certainly get sick from eating raw food or from hunger, ”she said.
The second RT-PCR test carried out after a few days of quarantine was negative for the seven crew members and one pilot. AI is now making arrangements to get them home, either on their own or through other available commercial flights. The captain and the oldest crew member of this flight will remain in quarantine in Italy until they test negative.
While comments and details have been requested from Air India on whether passengers are still in paid quarantine or have been allowed to leave their hotels, sources say anyone who tested negative is allowed to leave. and others to remain in quarantine until they test negative.
