CNH Industrial NV (NYSE: CNHI / MI: CNHI) today announced it has received the 2021 Manufacturing Leadership Award for outstanding achievement in the Leadership in Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Analytics category. The awards, chosen by a jury of experts, were presented at the Virtual Manufacturing Leadership Awards gala on May 19, 2021. This is the second year in a row that CNH Industrial has received such recognition. The awards, which are presented by the Manufacturing Leadership Council, a division of the National Association of Manufacturers, which is the largest manufacturing association in the United States, recognize the manufacturing companies and industry leaders who shape the future of global manufacturing.
The award-winning project, titled dolphins, is the result of a collaboration between CNH Industrial, the University of Turin, Italy and RADA (an IT solutions company based in Turin). Launched in 2019 at the IVECO commercial vehicle manufacturing plant in Brescia, northern Italy, dolphins is a software program that uses machine learning (ML) and big data analysis for actual predictive maintenance in the manufacturing process. The goal of actual predictive maintenance is to anticipate when equipment failure may occur, thus enabling preventive corrective maintenance. In addition, functioning as a digital twin of the equipment, dolphins also offers virtual detection performance as well as cybersecurity basics.
the dolphins project is a low-cost design solution now integrated and operational in the IVECO plant in Brescia, where it has already generated significant time and cost savings, as equipment maintenance is only carried out when necessary , which translates into increased uptime, improved operator safety and increased productivity.
From the pre-existing big data from the plant, a detailed multivariate analysis of production line conditions was performed by the Chemistry Department of the University of Turin and the results displayed on a dashboard for the designed operator. by RADA. dolphins provides service technicians with information to accurately predict, several hours in advance, any potential issues that could cause production line downtime
allowing predictive or preventive maintenance to be carried out. The results speak for themselves: at the Brescia plant dolphins has shown that it can predict a failure with a 90% reliability level a few hours before the event occurs. He correctly predicted 100% of machine downtime.
