ROME, May 23 (Xinhua) – The Serie A Champions League race ended on Sunday, as Juventus joined AC Milan to enter the prestigious competition, knocking out Napoli.
Inter Milan and Atalanta had secured Champions League places ahead of the day, with Milan, Napoli and Juve vying for the last two tickets. The trio were locked together heading into the final round, as Napoli were level with Milan with 76 points, one point ahead of Juve.
The Old Lady needed to beat Bologna in the final battle and hope Milan or Napoli fail to wrap up the three points.
Juve led 3-0 in the first half at the Dall’Ara stadium, and Alvaro Morata pocketed his second after the break, Riccardo Orsolini scored a consolation goal for the home side.
AC Milan also pocketed the three points they needed by winning Atalanta 2-0 with a pair of penalties from Franck Kessie, but Napoli only snatched a point after a 1- draw. 1 with Hellas Verona.
As a result, Milan, Atalanta and Juve rank second to fourth respectively, while Napoli rank fifth.
Newly-crowned Inter ended their 2020-21 season on a high, crushing Udinese 5-1, with five different players on the scoresheet.
Also on Sunday, Sassuolo beat Lazio 2-0, Spezia shared the loot with Roma at 2-2, Torino drew with Benevento 1-1. Enditem
