PM: Maldini’s instructions for the summer are clear
A number of players could be valuable additions on free transfers if Milan want low-cost reinforcements, according to a report.
The next four games that will say a lot about Milan’s future and their ambitions in the market, as qualifying for the Champions League would bring much-needed additional income into the club’s accounts.
According to PianetaMilan, Paolo Maldini has been tasked with achieving a smart summer window by capitalizing on opportunities without spending too much, but this is also the case for all clubs given the economic crisis due to the pandemic. That said, Milan could have the opportunity to catch some real top players without paying a single euro in transfer fees.
In recent months, Sergio Ramos’ name has been linked a lot and the Spaniard could really decide to leave Real Madrid after more than a decade there. His admiration for Maldini is well known, and a few ‘nods’ from Milan have arrived, but it remains a really complicated operation considering his salary. The same goes for Sergio Aguero and Edinson Cavani.
However, two more handy players are Memphis Depay and Florian Thauvin from Lyon and Marseille respectively. The Dutchman has been linked to the Rossoneri many times in the past, while Maldini has even publicly stated his interest in them.
Looking at other names, full-back Elseid Hysaj and Emerson Royal will be out of contract, as will PSG midfielder Julian Draxler, who could come in very handy if Hakan Calhanoglu leaves.
