Vigil scheduled for dog killed in suspected arson
SANTA MONICA, CA – A Sunday night candle light vigil at Santa Monica State Beach will pay tribute to Togo, a beloved family dog killed in a recent fire in Venice.
The neighbors of Venice will hold the vigil at 7 p.m. near Lifeguard Tower 26, 2600 Ocean Front Walk, Santa Monica.
Residents of Venice shared the following statement with Patch:
“On the night of April 21, 2021, Togo became the latest victim of Venice’s continued fall into anarchy and inhumanity. There is evidence that someone threw an accelerator into his house, burning it alive. During his short life, Togo returned compassion to him. him as a rescue, acting as a heroic service dog and touching anyone who crossed his path. We pray that Togo’s last cries of anguish will not be in vain. We are determined to make sense of this senseless loss.
The crisis that the people of Venice face today is not a matter of inconvenience. We are here to call attention to the relentless violence that has terrorized our neighbors, both housed and non-housed. Immediate action must be taken to create a safer Venice for all. We want to call on our absent politicians who ignore the cries of the community. We demand justice for Togo and all the other victims of this failure of political and humanitarian leadership. “
